Research Interests

My Ph.D research was to quantitatively investigate lateral gene transfer (LGT) in bacterial genome evolution. My postdoctoral projects at IU involved in mathematically and computationally detecting fine-scale gene transfers in eukaryotic mitochondrial genomes. My current postdoctoral project applies bioinformatics approaches on whole genome sequencing data using next-generation sequencing to provide deeper understanding of the evolution and epidemiology of a variety of microbial pathogen genomes. I have a broad interest in genome evolution. My goal is to address some fundemental questions in genome evolution using mathematical models, statistical frameworks, and bioinformatics approaches.
