The Virus infections and Immunity research group, at the Department of Virology in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Helsinki, is seeking a Doctoral Researcher to study the significance of persistent viruses on human health. We provide an inspiring and collaborative environment, combining state-of-the-art tools for viral genetic analysis, at the interface between basic and clinical research. We are located at the Meilahti Campus, University of Helsinki. The position will be filled from 1.8.2024 or as mutually agreed, beginning with a trial period of 6 months. Job description: - Your task will be to investigate the genetic makeup of persistent viruses in various clinical contexts. - You will contribute to methods development, as well as perform wet-lab experiments and data analysis. - You will work closely with other members of our group to develop statistical models to estimate the impact of viruses on health and disease. - Aside of doctoral studies, you will be expected to teach, and participate in national and international conferences. - The salary will be in accordance with the University's Salary System. Requirements: - Master's degree in genetics, microbiology, or alike (health or life sciences) - Fluency in English. - Enthusiasm for data analysis, method development and experimental work. - Willingness to teach & supervise undergraduates and graduates. - Ability to work independently and in a group. - Desire to work in an international environment. - Experience with data analysis and statistics are considered an asset, yet not a must.
