Funded PhD Position in the Aylward Lab at Virginia Tech. Blacksburg, VA, USA. The Aylward lab at Virginia Tech is seeking PhD students interested in the evolution of genome complexity in microbes and viruses. The Aylward lab uses comparative genomic, metagenomic, and experimental approaches to address questions regarding microbial and viral diversity. Recent projects have focused on giant virus diversity, endogenous giant viruses in green algae, and bacterial and archaeal phylogenomics. Candidates will be able to work on existing research projects and develop their own. Experience working with 'omic data is welcome, as is proficiency in Python or other coding languages commonly used in bioinformatics.
