Two Research Assistants Michigan State University The lab of Dr. Grace Smith-Vidaurre at Michigan State University is hiring a research assistant with expertise in data science, and another research assistant with expertise in captive animal experiments and wet lab work. Both research assistants will contribute to the lab's research on the evolutionary flexibility (and constraints) of vocal communication systems that depend on social learning. General research in the Smith-Vidaurre Lab focuses on how socially learned vocalizations are used to communicate identity information, and how brain regions for producing learned vocalizations may be sensitive to the early-life environment. The lab is part of the Department of Integrative Biology, the Department of Computational Mathematics, Science, and Engineering, and the Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior program. The data science research assistant is a remote-friendly position with a minimum requirement of a Bachelor's Degree in data science, biology, ecology, neuroscience, or a related field, and formal training in data science or equivalent years of experience. The avian research assistant is an in-person position with a minimum requirement of Bachelor's Degree in biology, ecology, neuroscience, psychology or a related field, and previous experience working on research projects with captive animals. Both research assistants will be expected to collaborate closely with other lab members at different career stages. A complete list of qualifications and other information about each position can be found through the official job postings (below).
