The Natural History Museum Karlsruhe (Staatliches Museum f�r Naturkunde Karlsruhe, SMNK) is one of the large research museums and collections in Germany. It is member of the DNFS (Deutsche Naturwissenschaftliche Forschungssammlungen e.V.) and presents permanent as well as temporary exhibitions - among them the largest living coral reef within Germany. A great variety of analogue as well as digital exhibits attracts more than 200,000 visitors every year to the museum. The museum is renowned nationally and internationally for its research in geological and biological subjects. Its comprehensive collections and its curators' expertise in taxonomy make the museum an important destination for the general public, for schools, the media as well as experts of the region, as well as national and international researchers. The Natural History Museum Karlsruhe announces a position as Head of Entomology and scientist for collection based research on insect evolution (all genders) Starting January 1st 2025, full time, permanent contract We are looking for a committed, motivated, communicative and team-oriented person with a broad education and versatile profound knowledge in the field of insects. Emphasis of the research work should be the groups of hymenoptera and/or hemimetabolous insects (not: lepidoptera and coleoptera). Graduation in a related topic and active publishing are requirements. The SMNK`s entomological collections contain more than 3 million dried insects, tens of thousands of micropreparations and countless objects in alcohol resulting from various research projects. The insect monitoring of the federal state of Baden-W�rttemberg (repository of the state's biodiversity) represents one of the important running projects. The museum's research infrastructure contains a molecular laboratory, outstanding installations for photo documentation and an up-to-date database system for research and collections (diversity workbench). Existing local cooperation include the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the science faculty of the Educational University (PH) Karlsruhe and the National Park Black Forest. Our expectations: - A scientific degree in biology or similar with focus on biodiversity, ecology or evolutionary biology, preferred using Hymenoptera or a hemimetabolous insect group as model system - A completed doctorate in a field of entomology - A broad knowledge of native insect species, profound taxonomic knowledge within a group of the Hypenoptera or hemimetabolic insects - Successful publication activity in a research field of the museum - Proof of successful acquisition of third-party funds - Experience in management of collections and databases - Ability to create and lead teams and to take charge of the unit's administrative tasks (business language: German) - Interest in public relation and exhibition projects - Interest and participation in national as international research consortiums and committees We offer: - Wage according to qualification and experience up to pay group 14 TV-L.
