Laboratory Technician - Smithsonian Institution Center for Conservation Genomics, Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute. We are searching for a technician to conduct DNA analyses in the laboratory at the Center for Conservation Genomics, located at the National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute in Washington, DC. The individual will be involved in projects on Hawaiian and other birds, and their associated pathogens with Drs. Rob Fleischer and Michael Campana. The position will involve basic DNA skills (DNA extraction and PCR), next-generation sequencing (Illumina) library preparation, ancient DNA, and other molecular methods as required. Bioinformatics capabilities and experience are a plus. The work will include a mix of pathogen, population genetic and microbiome analysis. Demonstrated experience in at least one of the above-mentioned methods is required. The position will be available initially for a five-month contract (with very likely extension to at least ten months) and will begin as soon as possible following the deadline, ideally before the end of July 2024.
