Postdoc in Coral Ecological Genomics Department of Evolution and Ecology University of California, Davis Application review begin date: August 9, 2024 (applications will be accepted until the position is filled) SUMMARY: We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in ecological genomics, population genetics, and/or marine evolutionary ecology. The initial appointment will be for two years with possible extension (contingent on funding and performance). The postdoc will work on funded projects on coral genomics and climate change adaptation within the Bay Lab at UC Davis. Recent marine heatwaves have resulted in mass mortality events on coral reefs globally. Natural selection during such events can result in dramatic shifts in the genetic composition of populations and affect future adaptive capacity. We plan to use a combination of field experiments and genomic sequencing to answer fundamental questions about rapid adaptation in response to warming. The postdoc would work closely with faculty, graduate students, undergraduates, and international NGO collaborators. The postdoc would be based on the UC Davis campus, but the position would involve fieldwork at Pacific Island field sites. The postdoc will be part of a broader community of ecologists, evolutionary biologists, and marine scientists within the Department of Evolution and Ecology, the Center for Population Biology, and the Coastal and Marine Sciences Institute. New graduates and applicants from groups that are historically excluded from the sciences are encouraged to apply. QUALIFICATIONS: · A Ph.D. in Evolution, Ecology, or a closely related field · Strong interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively · Experience using bioinformatic pipelines to analyze genetic or genomic data · Demonstrated ability to follow through on project deliverables and communicate findings in peer-reviewed journals · Strong quantitative skills and demonstrated proficiency with R · Preferred field experience in marine systems SALARY: Salary and benefits are consistent with UC Davis policy and applicant experience. See link for current salary scale: https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/2024-25/oct-2024-scales/t23.pdf TO APPLY: Interested candidates should submit (1) a CV, (2) the names and contact information for three potential references, and (3) a cover letter explaining the candidate's interest in the position and how their past research and future research goals fit within the position. All materials should be submitted in PDF format by email to rbay@ucdavis.edu, with the subject header "Ecological Genomics Postdoc." Applications received by August 9 will receive full consideration, but the position is open until filled. Start dates are flexible. Questions about the position should be directed to Rachael Bay.
