The Tropical Pest Genetics and Molecular Biology Research Unit in the USDA-Agricultural Research Service Pacific Basin Agricultural Research Center in Hilo, Hawaii, USA is seeking applications for a postdoctoral fellowship on insect molecular diagnostics administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE). Research Project: The postdoctoral fellow will contribute research to projects related to the study of tropical insect species that have negative impacts to agriculture in the United States. The postdoctoral fellow will contribute to research on tephritid genomics and molecular diagnostics to develop molecular tools for determining the mating status of agriculturally important tephritid species. This fellowship is supported by the Plant Protection Act 7721 and has the ultimate goal of transferring technologies to regulatory partners to improve the management of tephritid fruit fly pests. Qualification: PhD in a relevant field Desired proficiencies: high performance computing, bioinformatic analyses, molecular biological techniques such (DNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, and NGS library preparation), insect husbandry, and oral and written scientific communication.
